Case Study

Power asset portfolio due diligence in the Philippines

coal power on river

Advisian supported our client’s bid to acquire a stake in a Philippines’ power company that owns and operates a portfolio of 15 power generation assets and a distribution network covering over 9,000 km².

The Situation

The client operates a portfolio of 15 power generation assets and a distribution network covering  over 9,000 square kilometres. Of the 15 power generation assets, seven are in operation and eight are under development. The power assets include coal fired, gas fired, diesel, biomass, and hydro. Since the power assets are of difference technologies and a large scale distribution network, this required the client to engage a technical advisor with a range of expertise and a review in a tight time frame. The limited data availability required the experts to provide significant insights from their industrial experience and extensive technical knowledge of similar plants.

Approach

Advisian provided a comprehensive and independent review on the current business case to ensure economic viability of the project and that financial outcomes are optimised. We identified key success factors through assessing major elements of the project including technical review, financial review, contracts and regulatory review, delivery and organisation structure and review of project risk profile.

Results

Advisian brought forward an experienced team from Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, USA and Australia to deliver a world class solution for the client. Our international team offered diverse capabilities including professionals with over 20 years of experience in project development, delivery and operation of power plants across Asia.
