Project Background
The Liwan Gas Project is the first deepwater gas project offshore China, and is currently operated by Husky Oil China Limited (HOCL) and China National Oil Corporation (CNOOC). Located in the South China Sea approximately 300 km southeast of Hong Kong, Liwan has taken approximately seven years from discovery to first production and is considered one of the fastest developments in the world for a large-scale gas project in deepwater. The development consists of three natural gas fields: Liwan 3-1, Liuhua 34-2 and Liuhua 29-1, which share a subsea production system, subsea pipeline transportation and onshore gas processing
Our Services
Advisian’s work on this benchmark project began with the FEED, and included highlights such as an 80 km long tieback, first use of recirculation (gas recycle) as part of primary operating conditions and design of the largest float-over, high-deck to be installed offshore China. From the beginning, the Liwan project was an international collaboration amongst multiple offices, as work was shared between five corporate entities, spread out over four different countries (China, Malaysia, Australia and USA), on three separate continents.
Key Outcomes
First gas was produced at the Liwan 3-1 field in March 2014. Tthe Liuhua 34-2 field which is being developed in parallel with the 3-1 field, was tied into the Liwan subsea infrastructure in the second half of 2014. The Liwan project is one of many examples of successful collaboration amongst our offices, and truly showcases our integrated capability to serve clients from wellhead to market.
