Advisian, serving as lender’s engineer, assisted ENGIE, a global energy company, and Axium Infrastructure, an investment company, in the acquisition of a long-term utility microgrid and district energy system facility serving six Harvard-affiliated health institutions through 2051.
The energy system facility has the capacity to produce 99 MW of electricity, 1.1 million lbs/hr of steam, and 42,000 tons of chilled water. The reliability of these energy services is paramount to maintaining quality and consistency of care for the nearly 100,000 inpatients and 2.4 million outpatients who receive services at these institutions.
ENGIE and Axium, operating jointly as Longwood Energy Partners, will provide competitive energy management services that support these cutting-edge research centers and patient-centered health care facilities in Boston: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School and School of Public Health, and Joslin Diabetes Clinic.
Advisian’s Lender’s Independent Engineer (LIE) services address the needs of banks and other debt investors in major capital projects, including financial advisors, mandated lead arrangers, export credit agencies, and sovereign funds. For this project, the Advisian team performed detailed technical due diligence, including environmental and permitting diligence, that was required to procure financing.
“We are very happy to continue to support companies of the stature of ENGIE and Axium Infrastructure in their long term strategic capital deployment program,” said Sandeep Jain, Vice President of Business Development at Advisian.
In 2017, utilizing a similar global approach for energy management at a territorial scale, ENGIE and Axium were awarded a $1.1 billion, 50-year contract to operate and optimize The Ohio State University’s utility system for its flagship campus in Columbus, Ohio. Advisian also played a vital role in the project as the lender’s engineer.
