The client required assistance in developing and utilising an integrated modelling approach in the assessment of the potential of the project.
This project is located in the Province of Limpopo, South Africa - north of the known Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex. The client required assistance in developing and utilising an integrated modelling approach in the assessment of the potential of the project. This assessment had to consider mining methods, access methods, infrastructure, production rates and processing configurations.
The project commenced with a combined client and Advisian workshop that allowed the group to unpack the company’s goals and aspirations; hurdle rates; and drivers of value. The understanding of the aforementioned allowed the workshop attendees to identify relevant options and scenarios for further consideration. The strategy for the StepWise process was to maximise NPV and IRR value by considering various throughput scenarios.
The developed scenarios focused on the operation size, numerous mining zones, appropriate access methods, various mining methods, and processing scenarios. The first round of results were presented on a value curve, which indicated how NPV, IRR and Maximum Cumulative Negative Cash Flow change as the production size varies. Opportunities were then identified to further increase value, though value engineering initiatives and phasing opportunities.
