Biogas study for project developers in Morocco

Biogas Study for Project Developers in Morocco

There is a shortage of energy and electricity in Morocco. The question arose whether it would be possible to utilise the substantial quantities of waste available as biomass inputs for biogas plants.

A renewable energy company together with project developers awarded the study to Advisian/WP based on our unique, structured, mature and well tested approach, and our global expertise on biogas.  Advisian embarked on the concept evaluation study into anaerobic digestion of crops to make bio methane gas, food grade CO2, bio-oil and electricity in Morocco.  This study included:

  • A gap analysis
  • Assessment of various development options
  • Capital and Operational Expenditure

The aim was also to reduce or defer project Capital expenditure that would negatively impact project execution timing or the overall project value proposition.

The purpose of this study was to perform a technical and financial benchmark assessment of the various development options. Based on the input information from the client, the technical feasibility of the project concept was investigated gaps identified. Advisian used information from its own knowledge base to fill these gaps. In certain instances, scaling factors were used to provide a more robust but conservative techno-economic model. Financial viability of the project together with real project returns was provided to client. The options and gap analysis formed inputs to test numerous scenarios at a high (conceptual) level with the aim of identifying the ‘best’ investment option(s), within the defined parameters.  Advisian identified possible development options in addition to the clients “base case”. Following from the techno-economic analysis, options were prioritised for further consideration in the next phase of the project.

Utilising Advisian’s distinctive capability of building flexibility into the structure of the models in order to do trade-off analysis of different technical and economic options, the client used Advisian report to provide comfort to investors to be able to release funds to continue to the next phase of the project.
