We’ve been awarded a study by Infrastructure Victoria to assess the opportunities and risks to repurpose existing gas infrastructure into alternative energy mixes.

This includes looking at oil and gas production facilities, pipelines, and process and storage facilities – both onshore and offshore. We’ll assess whether this infrastructure can be repurposed for carbon capture and storage, biomethane, blending hydrogen to natural gas/methane or biomethane, and transporting hydrogen.

Infrastructure Victoria will use the publicly available results to develop final recommendations on the opportunities and risks. And inform the Victorian Government on how to develop alternative fuels for a clean economy in the region.

This study will inform decision makers, influence the energy transition journey and shape the world our kids will live in. Existing infrastructure has the potential to store, transport and deliver clean energy. Assessing their repurposing potential for the shift is a good starting point.
