Our client was a Chinese investor looking to acquire this concentrated solar power (CSP) company, headquartered in the United States and with projects in the US, Chile, South Africa and other parts of the world.
The Situation
The client wanted to evaluate the target company from a technical and commercial standpoint in order to negotiate a fair price for the acquisition. They engaged Advisian to provide expert advice and technical evaluation on the target company’s business model, financial viability, performance of their projects, technical capability, and future pipeline and growth prospects.
Approach
Advisian provided a team of experts from the US, Hong Kong and Australia to work with the client to undertake technical and commercial due diligence to support the client in its investigation and evaluation of the target company. Scope of services included:

- Interviewed the management of the target company to understand their view on the market prospect and stress-tested against our in-house research results and the CSP experts’ knowledge
- Benchmarked the target company against other major industry players, including business model, project win-rates, project pipeline, market share and business performance
- Reviewed the technical performance and the capabilities of the target company’s technical teams

Based on our techno-commercial review, we provided recommendations on financial forecasts, future business plan and pipeline and technical capabilities. The client was able to use these recommendations to come up with a fairer price to acquire the target company.
